It is indeed easier to be motivated by watching your favorite celebs getting their body crafted in the gym. You might be so tempted to join the Pilates class or enroll for the boot camp session. But, let me drop the bomb… IT DOES NOT MATTER AT ALL! Yes, you read it right. Such inspirations are often short lived and people repent wasting money. It is not about doing it once a week but doing it more often. And, it is about doing every day at the same time.

  1. Observe your schedule. The target is to appoint that hour of the day, which allows you to work out with max concentration. It can be early morning or late night. But, the catch is it should be EVERY DAY at the SAME TIME.
  2. Plan it in your mind. You need to set a routine. However, it cannot be monotonous. A same boring routine like running every day in the same park can put you off.
  3. Mix different activities like rope skipping, weights, swimming, badminton etc to break the monotony. However, it is important to take a break once a week or your body signals you to.
  4. Choose a corner for inspiration or warm up. Spend some quiet time there to encourage yourself for sticking to the routine. Revise your good moves and how you can improve.
  5. Watch inspirational videos, engage in healthy discussions, join communities or online forums to discuss health and fitness routines. Work out on your routines and bring in some creativity.

Always eat right

Each body type has a different requirement in terms of nourishment. You may be young now but you cannot be young forever, not even at heart how much ever you say that. But, you can certainly stay strong forever if you ALWAYS EAT RIGHT! The biggest gift for your body is to nourish it with healthy food. You can miss out on exercising but, you should never miss out on eating healthy!

eat right

Your body needs iron, magnesium, proteins, vitamins, and even fats and carbohydrates. If you have health conditions then you might need specific ingredients in specific quantities. It is only the right food that will give you the superpower to carry on through your toughest days.

  1. Learn about healthy and organic food. Read about your local produce and which are best foods as per your geography and climate. Invest in veggies and fruits more.
  2. Prepare a diet chart, do not depend on others or even the internet to do so. You know your body well than anyone else and you can plan better food for it.
  3. Do not hesitate to pamper with food loaded with fats and carbohydrates. But, do not call it a “cheat food”. It can send “guilt signals” to your body and you might fall for the practices.
  4. Drink a glass of warm water before you begin to eat (preferably 30 to 15 minutes before actual eating). It triggers digestion.
  5. Always sit and have your food. Chew slowly and relish each bite. If you are in a hurry, eat a small portion but never eat as you walk.

Staying Hydrated

You feel the heat or not, its summer or winter, autumn or spring, you have to stay HYDRATED at all times. Many times, our body sends signals which our minds do not pick up properly. Some feel low while some irritated, some get severe headaches, all because the water levels in the body are too low.

Staying Hydrated

Remember we are made of 5 Elements known as ‘PANCH MAHABHUTA’ in Sanskrit:

  1. Akash = Ether
  2. Vayu = Air
  3. Agni = Fire
  4. Prithvi = Earth
  5. Jal = Water

It is the water that dominates all. Now, let’s get the facts straight. Water regulates the internal body temperature. All the activities like metabolism of carbohydrates and picking proteins from the food are performed by the water. The brain and spinal cord are insulated by water acting like a shock absorber. There are several other tasks that the water performs. Long story short, you need to drink loads of water or healthy, homemade fresh juices.

  1. Carry a bottle of water with you at all times. Even if you are going out for a 5-minute walk, carry it!
  2. When you are going on a long journey carry ample bottles. Whether you are sure or not that you will get stores or cafes to get water carry bottles.
  3. If you workout regularly, your body needs more liquid as it loses a lot of water through sweat. Keep a tab on how much you drink throughout the day.
  4. Water can be boring at all times for some people, learn recipes of making healthy juices and soups. Buying readymade ones can be unhealthy as they have high levels of sugar in them.
  5. Do not gulp water all at once. Keep sipping in bits and at regular intervals. If you have the habit of forgetting, keep a bottle in front of you.

Start the day with gratitude

Have you had days when you slept well, woke up fresh, ate a good breakfast and yet felt something is amiss? And, certainly, you must have had days when no matter how much you planned and how well planned, everything turned out to be a disaster! Well, there is a common thread in such occurrences – GRATITUDE! At a very basic level, it simply means being thankful and at a spiritual level, it means being content.

Start the day

You do not have to get into any idol worship, chant hymns, sing prayers or be an ardent devotee to express your gratitude. In fact, you can be an existentialist, non-believer in spiritual existences, an atheist for that matter and yet express the best gratitude.

Remember we did not create ourselves and we have so many people and entities to be thankful for. Also, we forget being thankful to ourselves for being tough when times were bad and being soft and kind when times needed love.

  1. Science has proved that our hands are energy points. When you wake up, even before opening your eyes, rub your palms and put them on your eyes and move across the face.
  2. Start your day with a little prayer. You can find endless prayers online to attract positivity and begin your day. But, it is best to make one on your own so that you feel it when you chant it.
  3. Do not rush out of your bed. Observe your breathing. Gain control over it and be thankful that you are aware of your movements.
  4. Think about the wonderful people and things in your life that you are blessed with. Be thankful for them to make your life a bit easier and merrier.
  5. Do not forget to be thankful to yourself for achieving all the little things that meant a lot to you but others did not notice them at all.

Handy Guide That Prepares You to Eat the Right Way

Several scientists, psychologists, and researchers are working to establish Yoga as a science for holistic well-being. It is needless to say that food has a direct impact on a person’s physical health. In concurrence with the nature of empirical sciences, tests are being conducted to establish the connection between food and mental health. While the adventurists can continue to explore in this area, there have been Rishis (sages) and Maharishis (great sages) who lived and proved the connect. One such Hath Yoga Practitioner Swami Swatmarama has organized and elucidated just on food.

You to Eat the Right Way

Which Food is the Right Food?

Several ancient yoga texts emphasize on having the right food in right proportion. Now the question is which food is right and which one is wrong? Well, the answer is simple. Be your own Guru! You can be guided by your physicians and dieticians or some Instagram celebrity who vouches for a diet. But, if you carefully listen to your body it will give you the chart. In the meantime, you can refer to what Swami Muktibodhananda has explained in her book Hath Yoga Pradipika (as guided by Swami Swatmarama):

salmon fish healthy food

1) Accept Your Uniqueness:

First thing, you need to keep in mind is that each human possesses distinct body type and mental disposition. You need to be patient and accept your body. It is with acceptance you show your willingness to grow. What turns out to be an excellent fat burner recipe for your neighbor might be toxic for you. Hence, you need to first IDENTIFY and then ACCEPT as you are.

2) Welcome the Change:

Don’t just stop at acceptance and be proud of who you are. You need to be soft and analytical about yourself. Take measures to eliminate the toxins that you have been hoarding in your body without any rent. Identify the habits which are easier to let go and begin with them. It sends ‘feel good’ signals to your brain and you automatically gear up for more such changes.

3) Vegetarian or Non – Vegetarian?

The topic whether to consume vegetarian or not to give up on the non-vegetarianism will always be debatable. There have been Indian Maharishis and even Western Philosophers who insisted on VEGETARIANISM. But, there have been rationalist philosophers and great Yoga Practitioners who would consume meat when offered. To reiterate, it will always be a personal choice and it should be that way always.

4) Geography:

A significant factor that controls what you eat is the geography. The Yoga texts like ‘Hatha Yoga Pradipika’ by Swami Muktibodhananda might more or less prescribe you with an elaborate list of foods that are allowed and disallowed. But, you need to be practical and incorporate fresh and local produce has also been mentioned. One cannot possibly think of sustaining the body without nourishing it in the right way.

5) Seasons:

On the same lines of geography goes the climate. You should learn about the seasonal vegetables and fruits that are available at your place. This will help you to pick food that will actually nourish your body and keep you healthy. The times we are living in currently, makes it tougher to get hold of organic food. Invest some time in finding the bio markets. If possible, plant herbs and try to cook food at home.

6) Mitahara [Conducive Food]:

Hatha Yoga Pradipika has enumerated with great clarity about the food items that are conducive and prohibited for the yoga practitioners. ‘MITAHARA’ helps in eliminating the toxins and reinstate the balance in the body. The primary reason food is discussed in detail is to gain good control over not just the body but also the mind. In order to be capable of attaining the asanas [postures] and dhyana [concentration], one needs to have rock solid determination. And, this mental state can be achieved with the right food.

7) Cheat Codes:

It is very HUMAN to give into the TEMPTATION. And honestly, there is nothing to feel guilty about it. In fact, one should take it as a lesson and move ahead. You can give in to your temptations or else the body my throw certain reactions like the same of an addict. However, stay focused and cheat only in limited amounts. Compensate by doing something that will make you happy [certainly not eating more]! As you discipline your mind, you can overcome the habit of deviating from your healthy lifestyle.

Things that have been listed in the ancient texts might be practically impossible to follow in this century. It also depends on the availability and accessibility of such food items. The key here is to work gradually and grow firmly each day with your determination. You will have to make amends in the list as per the availability of vegetables and fruits in your neighborhood. So, stay strong and start making a list of the fruits and veggies that are organic and available to you easily.

Eating Like A Yogi!

“I live in a city. How am I supposed to follow a diet of a yogi?” Well, you do not have to go into the woods and live like a hermit to inculcate his food habits. You can very much live in the busiest, bustling city and have the food that keeps your body healthy and mind peaceful. The most disheartening thing to witness is people doing meditation and following a very unhealthy lifestyle.

Philosophy of Yoga and Food:

Eating like a yogi

Many ardent followers of yoga are under a huge misconception that yoga is just about the asanas [postures] and meditation. Yoga is a philosophy, a way of life. It is an attitude to bring harmony first in your own life and with that enlightened harmony spread peace in the lives of others. Food is an integral part of yoga and has been elaborately covered in several ancient yoga texts. ‘Mitahar’ or food conducive to health for creating balance has been given special emphasis in ‘Hathyoga’ text study. From one food lover to another I will make it easier for you to follow the diet of a yogi.

The key is working gradually and growing firmer each day in your determination.

#1: Chew The Food:

You cannot just denounce the junk food and feel better about yourself. Many people abstain from their favorite food and bounce back badly. Results are they put on more weight than they actually lost. Parents keep telling their children to chew the food and themselves forget to enjoy the bite themselves. A dietician will study your body type and prescribe with an elaborate list of must-have food and must-have-not food. Unfortunately, not many of them address the habit of chewing the food properly. Just like breathing, chewing is self-taught. And just like yoga teaches you to breathe properly for meditation, it does teach you about chewing for better concentration while meditating and perfecting the postures.

Science on chewing:

When I was young, my grandfather used to make me chew my food 32 times. I asked him why he replied, “there’s a reason why God gave us 32 teeth.” Well, I couldn’t depend on God for my facts and had to research. Science says there are 4 types of teeth for cutting, tearing, and crushing the food. But, what we actually do is chew it a few times and simply swallow. What happens later is that your intestines have to do the chewing. This takes up a lot of energy and you end up feeling lethargic.

The Trick:

Even if you are late, chew the food. You will have to make it fast but make it a point that you crush the food thoroughly before swallowing. Almost 30% of the food digestion is triggered because of the saliva. Unless you keep the food in your mouth and chew it properly, the saliva will not get to play its part. The lesser your intestine has to chew; the more energetic you would feel. Feel every bite and crush it until it is almost liquid or semi-liquid. Avoid drinking water or any other beverage during your meals.

#2: Quantity of the Food:

Mastering the technique of chewing doesn’t mean that you are free to overeat. Also, filling your belly with too many fruits, salads or nuts doesn’t make you healthy either. Yoga and diet are about balance. It celebrates each body as it and encourages you to understand your better than anyone else [that includes your physician and even dietician]. Hathayoga Pradipika [an ancient text on the Hathayoga practices] suggests that your stomach should be filled half with food, a quarter with water and other quarter with air. This is an ideal quantity to eat food.

Science on Quantity:

If you think that you should be eating till the point when your body sends you a signal by burping, then you are wrong. According to several sages who practiced Yoga their whole life say that belching or burping is not a good sign. It simply means you have overeaten and your body cannot take it anymore. So, even if you claim to have chewed your food properly, overeating will push you into your lethargy zone. Also, if you have truly chewed your food, you will NEVER overeat.

The Trick:

You will have to do away with your attitude that you live to eat. Yoga and food say that you eat to live. This simply means that every morsel you hold to eat has to be seen with great divinity. You have to be first thankful that you get to eat the food which is a luxury for some. Secondly, you will have to develop an attitude that each bite you take is for the higher spirit that rests within you. The body which is simply a tool to reaching it has to be fed well with good food.

Let’s settle with these 2 techniques first. Only when you absorb them, only when they become an integral nature just like breathing, you can proceed further. There is no need to be harsh on yourself anymore. No more crash diets or painful abstinence from unhealthy food right away. Let us take baby steps together and accomplish smaller goals first to hit the bigger ones!

Tidying Up In 2016!

new year fresh start

How comfortable it would be to have a readymade life? However, by now you must have realized that the essence of living is to evolve from the everyday complexities. There are tough codes to crack, barb wires to crawl beneath, and grids to align so that you find a meaningful living. Following the map of others will never take you to your destination. You might not find your ground reality in theirs and you might end up dejected. Such are the times when you feel like hitting the reboot button of your life. Fortunately there are means where you can design the reboot button and hit it whenever you wish. Tidying up is the blueprint for it.

# Look at everything afresh!

After few weeks, the resolutions crawl in the dusty corners of the homes or offices. You often find them as you are tidying up!

That’s because you look at the same old resolutions with the same old pair of eyes. Start afresh not just on the first day of year but every day of the year. Everyday should be treated with the same enthusiasm as January 1st. Monitor your every action that means even breathing! When you think that everything is rushing past you, stop that very moment, breathe deep, set your grip, and restart. It’s alright to be slow in the beginning but once you get a hang of it, it will come naturally to you.

How to Start Afresh?

  1. Don’t be Judgmental.
  2. Praise others for their good work and compliment them for their true beauty.
  3. You will get praises and compliments; take them gracefully instead of shying away.
  4. Do one good deed a day call your old friend, offer food or water, give your seat etc.
  5. Smile throughout the day.

Start Afresh

#Small Goals:

Don’t promise yourself to be a millionaire when you are working as a mid-level executive. Please just don’t! Instead make some small goals that work like steps towards a bigger goal. For instance, you can plan to spend less, save more, and invest your saved money. Making small goals will keep you motivated as they are easier to achieve. What you can do further is set a larger goal with smaller goals as the stepping stones. As you tick the smaller goals, you will be ascending towards the greater one. Don’t dream big, rather aim small and fulfill all your dreams!

How Set Small Goals?

  1. List down all the things that you aim to achieve.
  2. Divide them on the basis of difficulties.
  3. Plan to achieve them by setting shorter goals and setting a deadline.
  4. Don’t hesitate to ask for help (especially a professional one)!
  5. Never be harsh on yourself and celebrate the little victories.

set small goals

#Dealing with Grudges:

Fights and arguments, heated conversations and misconstrued dialogues are inevitable. It is after these things happen, how you deal with them is important. Some people love to play the blame game and pin it onto others. Sensitive ones over-burden themselves with the guilt by over-thinking. Take a moment to analyze. In this glorious New Year, you need to set all the differences apart. This doesn’t mean you have to be apologetic every time (this can give a wrong signal). Dealing with grudges especially at the professional front becomes tricky but necessary.

How To Deal With The Grudges?

  1. If you tend to lose your mind in anger, don’t count numbers….it never worked for me.
  2. Keep quiet and listen what the person has to say (mentally register all the things said).
  3. Explain him calmly that you can’t talk at this moment and you both need a breather.
  4. Structure your thoughts coherently and sit down to discuss.
  5. Train your tone and voice while having such discussions and choose a private place.

This should ideally be your first resolution for 2016! It is not easy to work on the resolutions. You need determination and perseverance while you work on the resolutions. Only a clear and still mind can help you reflect better on your actions. When your mind isn’t cluttered you can be at peace and work on your goals better. You can stay focused and work in full enthusiasm if your mind is not cluttered with all the guilt or frustration of 2015. Moreover as days pass, you might do certain wrongs, instead of sulking over it, you can start afresh by tidying up and move ahead.

How To Meditate?

  1. Sit on the floor (possibly on a mat or rug) with spine erect.
  2. Fold your legs gently so that you should not feel any discomfort.
  3. Keep your hands on lap.
  4. Focus on your breathing (and smile).
  5. Quiet your mind by concentrating on the forehead between your eyebrows.

It is not easy to quiet the mind that has been worked up for so many years. Begin with 5 minutes and as you grow comfortable, you can stretch it to 30 or 60 minutes.

As you grow more conscious about your actions, you will be inclined in improving them every day. The more you work on bettering yourself, you make others happy. How? You inspire them for the change that you incorporated. When you are happy, nothing can destroy it for you! This year you are not breaking the resolutions but your old bad habits by tidying up!

Magical Uses of the Rock Salt

rock salt

I know you must be thinking of some ‘Supernatural’ adventures with the ‘Winchester boys’ but this one is nothing less than a magic. Many people use rock salt as a natural supplement instead of salt. This certainly has numerous health benefits. You must have heard some unusual stories about the rock salt, but discarded them as myths. Primary reason why these uses never made it into the books was the inconsistency in usage. While some fail to give you the right proportions or techniques to use, others fail to list the benefits.

Over the years I have been intensively researching about the uses of rock salt in different traditions. Coming from a multi-ethnic and multi-religious land with its ethos built over the span of 5000 years, I have compiled surprising uses of rock salt. They never made it in any literature except from some shady journals mainly because they belong to the traditions of oral literature. Folk stories that were sung, mixing home grown herbs for home remedies were all a part of ancestral wealth in India.

While you can certainly hunt for the empirical benefits of Rock Salt enumerated by the scientists, here I intend to discuss the unconventional uses of rock salt. The results are magical and you may roar ‘what sorcery is this?’ yet there is a reason behind it.

A fresh start will leave you energized throughout the day. While you may be bathing with your shower gel and shampoos, this century old traditional method is known to clear the aura. A 90 year old neighbor, who always had a cheerful demeanor even after losing her loved ones always left me in awe of her. I use to sit patiently for hours, listening to her stories. One day she shared her bathing ritual with the rock salt. I quickly penned it down in my moleskin.

Directions to Use:

  1. Take one fist of rock salt in a steel pan or a steel cooking pot.
  2. Heat it gently on a low heat over your stovetop for about 10 minutes.
  3. While heating, continuously and gently stir the salt with a wooden spatula.
  4. The heat she said breaks the energy of the salt and releases it.
  5. Turn off the heat after 10 minutes and empty the salt in a small glass bowl.
  6. Pour some water and gently move the salt in the bowl for about 5 or 10 seconds.
  7. Fill your bathtub with warm water (if you wish cold water you can do the same).
  8. Empty the moistened rock salt into the bathtub.
  9. Gently move the water in the bath tub with your hands.
  10. Don’t allow anyone else to touch your bathwater.
  11. Keep a glass of water with ½ teaspoon of rock salt in it near to your bathtub.
  12. Relax in the tub for about 30 minutes.

You will experience your skin and muscles relax as the salt enters your cells and atoms through your skin. Try to submerge in the tub as much as possible. She warned me that there are chances you might feel dizzy or experience pain. It can be a heavy and an uncomfortable experience on certain days.

  1. On such days place your hand on the glass of water with rock salt in it.
  2. The painful or harmful energies will be absorbed by the glass.
  3. Once you are done, dispose the glass water in the toilet and empty the tub. Make sure no salt residue remains in either the tub or the glass.

This at times looks like an elaborate ritual for all days. Hectic schedules and relentless activities might not leave us with time for such baths. She said that it is best to do it every day, as regularly cleansing the aura makes us strong to fight the negativity. Understanding my concern, for regular days, she suggested:

  1. Fill a bucket of water and put one fistful of rock salt in it.
  2. It will be best to atleast heat the salt in the steel pan as mentioned in the previous procedure.
  3. If you cannot heat the salt allow it sit there in the water bucket for 10 to 15 minutes.
  4. Bathe with this water.
  5. In such conditions it is best to bath twice a day.

When we return home and are tired with little or no energy for our family members, such baths can take away all our dullness.

Ambience Cleansing:

You must have felt a sudden dip in your energy levels upon entering a particular place. It can be your home, office or any social place. Even science has started to believe in presence of negative energies at places. It can be related to a negative gravitational pull because of wrong architectural structure or pure negative energies. The simplest way is to deal with them is with the rock salt.

  1. Put rock salt lines outside the main entrance of your home.
  2. One thick line is sufficient.
  3. Similarly put the salt lines outside every door of the rooms in your home.
  4. You can clean them every day by collecting them in a dust pan and flushing them in the toilet.
  5. Or you can clean them every alternate day or once in a week.

You need to feel connected to the place to determine how often you should clean the rock salt. If you sense dropping of your energy intensely, you can do it daily or once a week is perfect. While this takes care of your home, you must be worried about your office. While some welcome such insights, some bosses might think of you as a special case or a follower of mumbo-jumbo. There are tricks to get things done without attracting any attention.

  1. Place a small glass bowl on your desk.
  2. Fill it with rock salt.
  3. Change it every alternate day or once a week.

This ordinary looking rock salt has give tremendously magical results in just few days. There are only two things that you would need – a) obviously the rock salt and b) your determination to stay positive as it pulls out the negativity. The heated salt when absorbs the water molecules and releases negative ions that creates a healthier atmosphere. Artificial electro-magnetic wavelengths transmitted by electronic devices around us leads to nervousness, insomnia and lack of concentration. Rock salt amplifies the natural frequency in the human brain and synchronizes it with the frequency resonated by the planet’s electro-magnetic field. In simpler words, the practice of cleansing the aura with rock salt stabilizes the alpha wave rhythms in your brain.

In our further article I will discuss in detail the usage of Rock Salt to ward off the evil eye.

Be the Time Catcher!

time catcher paiting

You certainly know a dream catcher but the concept of TIME CATCHER must be novel for you. Last month I got the biggest blow of my life. I am a single mother, jobless, pursuing masters and truck load of bills to take care of. After spending sleepless nights of crying, I thought unless I get hold of all this, I will fail miserably. Upon delving it struck me that no matter how much I am appreciated to be well-organized, I am bad at time management. I list down things ‘to-do’ and plan to get them done by E.O.D. But in reality several things on that list sit there for weeks and even months.

So, I decided to be the Time Catcher. NO, I did not invent any D.I.Y tool or engage in any witch-craft to control time. I made some changes in my behavior and am determined to practice it daily to master the art.

Google it and you’ll find billions of articles on time-management. There will be Corporate Gurus lecturing about the dos and don’ts for successful careers. But I share here some very cardinal and practical rules for HAPPY TIME MANAGEMENT.

  • Take your 30 minutes:

Time Catcher Clock

Begin your day in a prayer and by prayer I mean is a promise to yourself. The moment you wake up, no matter how late you are running, don’t run. A messy start will mess up your entire day. So, promise and pray to yourself that you are going to control every second of the day. Keep a little planner with you. If you love technology make notes on your Smartphone. Plan and schedule all the things that are important for the day. Planning things will save some time that usually wastes when you try to do the job hurriedly.

  • Organize a simple list:

Time Catcher list

I was organized but my mistake was to jump on things and places that would leave me tired and grouchy at the end of the day. For instance I would plan a trip to the market specially to get the clothes repaired. I looked at my planner and thought why not plan a trip when I have to drop my kid to the dance class? It’s near to the market and while the clothes are being mended I can do some grocery. This way I ticked 3 to-dos of the list and left me grinning at the end. Take a better charge of that ‘list’ than just writing things and ticking them off.

  • Never Ever Multi-task:

Time Catcher multitasking

Yeah, I know people are always acknowledged for their multi-tasking skills. But it’s about time to take some pleasures on focusing and getting the things done perfectly. I started cultivating a habit in my kid of doing things creatively and as much accurately as possible. I applied the same rule on me. What I realized was not only my things got done efficiently but quicker than the regular time. As compared with multi-tasking, by doing one thing at a time left me with more time on my hands.

  • Planning Spare Time:

Time Catcher Planning

Yes you read it right! The moment I get a call or text, I will immediately attend it. I then end up wasting an hour because I would check twitter, facebook and play games. This was because I never kept a tab on the time I spent on such interruptions. Then I planned on attending only the urgent calls. Even after attending the calls, I would not spare more than 3 minutes. I kept my tea time restricted for ½ hour and would check my FB or twitter updates. This way I could save some time and pursue my hobbies like sewing and D.I.Y crafts.

  • Be Rational and Practical:

Time Catcher practice

It is okay if you do not get some of the things done. On certain days there might be distractions or you might not be feeling it. There is no need to demoralize yourself over it and hope to get the things done next day. Science says that clutter and mess in the surrounding can pull down your energy levels. Tidy up sections little by little every day to become more efficient. Another interesting fact is about 20% of your thoughts and conversations produce 80% of your results. Have determined thoughts to not just to do the job but also save some time for yourself.

  • Indulge in Pleasures:

Time Catcher Pleasure

Many people are aware about what they are passionate about, but most of them are unable to do it due to the lack of time. Motivate yourself by saying that managing time efficiently will leave you with time for your pleasures. In the beginning you may find it tough but soon you will create that little ‘me-time’ and indulge in it. This will keep your spirits high and you on track of time management. Go for brisk walks, listen to music, watch inspiring videos if you want but do something for sometime everyday to stay motivated.

All these little tricks are inter-linked and practicing them daily will transform you into a TIME CATCHER. Breathe in slowly and tell yourself that you should be controlling the time and not otherwise. Days when you are tired or unwell, ask for help. Engage your family members or roommates in your schedule. Divide activities and work on your comforts. Becoming a time catcher will make you feel energetic all the time and give you a better hold over your life.

D.I.Y. Breathing!!!

D.I.Y. Breathing

Ever wondered when do we exactly begin to breathe? Our lungs are filled with fluid when we are in the wombs. The first and the most profound change that we or our body experience upon birth is the ‘BREATH’. You might not want to believe that first few breaths after our birth are the most difficult ones. Science says that our first breaths are shallow and irregular so that we can adjust ourselves to the new life. Soon, our breaths become deeper and regular. But I feel that as we begin to grow, we tend to lose our ability to breathe fully and unencumbered.

Know your facts:

  • On an average majority of the people breathe 12-15 times in one minute. This way they use only 20% or even lesser capacity of their lungs.
  • Consequences of such shallow breathing are innumerable. From mild headaches to anxiety and sleeplessness to stress, everything is related with our breathing.
  • There are several factors like restricting clothing, bad posture, mindlessly sitting in front of computer or T.V., diets, pollution, smoking etc. that lead to rushed breathing.
  • You need to expand your lung capacity by deeper and fuller breathing. The first sign of such breathing is that your 12-15 breathes per minute will come down gradually.
  • What more? It will come to you naturally and instinctively. You’ll not have to consciously put efforts into it.

Some Interesting Facts:

  • What The Yogis Say:

I always felt there is something very poetic and musical about breathing. Upon research I came across some delightful insights by Yogis who have mastered the art of breathing. They believe that breathing 11 times per minute makes you understand the language of the birds and the animals around you. When you pull it 9 times per minute, you’ll learn the language of the Earth. The moment it goes to 7 times per minute, you prepare yourself to know the meaning of existence.

  • Take Your Time:

You have to be natural and not mechanical. You can’t sit with a timer in your hand and count your breaths. It takes enormous efforts and consistent practice for our body to adjust to the natural clocks of the universe. You’ll have to begin by pulling out some time to practice slow, deep and wider breathing. Set a time of the day and do not miss that time no matter what.

  • What You’ll Notice:

Within a week or two, you’ll witness the results of your discipline. Your body will be more stable and won’t notice static nor crackle. It will simply begin to adjust and align itself with the Earth. Your nervous system will slowly evolve and the number of breaths that you take will come down naturally. The fast paced life will not bother you anymore.

  • Say Bye-Bye:

The moment your breath is on the path of stability, the disturbances of your life will be gone. Soon, you’ll gain the ability to see your life clearly and deal with all the petty issues happily. You’ll not need any self-help books or inspirational talks for strength.

  • Smile:

While you are stretching your lungs and belly, let your face stretch too. Smile when you are practicing the deep breaths. It will pass some happy messages to your body, your mind and heart. It will effectively instill happiness and contentment.

BreathingD.I.Y. Steps For Natural And Instinctive Breathing:

  • First Rule is to not take this as an exercise. Practice it as often as you can so that it comes to you naturally every time you do it.
  • Inhale deeply. Let your belly inflate. You will feel a stretch in your lungs.
  • Hold for a moment. This allows the oxygen to reach the cells and saturate them.
  • Exhale slowly with a short burst. This will help your diaphragm activate.
  • Choose a time when you can practice in silence. This will help you to monitor yourself with focus.

Once the practice seeps into your system, you’ll no longer need to set out time for it. The slow, rhythmic breathing will become a part of you. Every thought you think and every action you do will match the beats of your breathing.
